The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) holds an exposition in the United States annually that draws in 40,000 registrants from around the world. IAAPA describes its expo as, “the one-stop destination for leisure and attractions industry professionals, including operators, suppliers, investors, and developers.” It further has expos in Europe and Asia as well.
At the conclusion of each year, IAAPA compiles its expo results into an annual demographics print report, with a digital version shared online.

IAAPA Expo’s core identity is clean and simple. This sub-brand of IAAPA keeps a limited palette of purple and green, always on a white background.
Parallelograms are a big feature item and needed to be incorporated throughout. Graphic requirements state the parallelogram must skew right and retain a 45° angle. As a result, photos must be carefully selected to fit without losing clarity or introducing odd cropping.
Additionally, since the client shares the report in both print and digital forms, the report must look clear as both page spreads and singles.
The design requirements were especially challenging when designing the “Companies in Attendance” spreads. However, with strategic photo selection and alternating placement, the parallelograms work great.
Two interior spreads of the print report feature registrant and exhibitor statistics. To quickly update the numbers and simultaneously apply my branded styles to the charts, I built the graphs I needed in Illustrator. Then, I simply expanded the chart and copy-pasted it into the InDesign document.
